AFRAID 2

You should have seen her face, Sef!!! He said laughing so hard. It was like she was going to explode… Her face was sooo red, and her ears were turning pink.

Cute ba? Sef asked.

With that said, Elmo hit him in the head. Ulol….

Chill!! Napaka-violente mo!! Sige ka… mas lalo kang di magugustuhan ni Julie-babes..

I admit… she’s kinda cute… Pero she’s not my type… Too much of a goody-goody, nagger, and inggay pa niya…

Naku… dahan-dahan ka lang sa words mo, pre… baka kainin mo yan….

He shook his head smiling. Tsss… I have never eaten my own words… Never..

They were playing COD as always. It was second to food for Elmo and Sef.

Are you sure about that volunteering assignment? Di ba.. you hate nature?

Anong magagawa ko?? Gusto mo bang bumagsak ako?

Di naman sa ganun pre… baka… di ka lang kasi magvolunteer, ipa-deport ka pa ni prof pauwi…

He took another blow from Elmo. Loko ka talaga…. Kaya ko un noh…

Ikaw… Mr…. Magalona…. napaka…-

-Yabang!!! Masungit!!! Kala mo kung sinong gwapo!!!!

She irritatingly kicked a throw pillow to the wall.

Easy lang ate… kung ayaw mo nun… akin nalang… gwapo ba talaga??

Tumigil ka nga dyan, Jo…. Seryoso ako.. As in talaga… There was a sign, with his name on it… reserved parking daw…

Well… you did tell him to get a sign like that… malamang..

You’re not exactly helping, Jo…

Hindi naman un ung sinadya ko dito eh…. sabi ko pahiram ng pambunot ng kilay… You started to make me a therapist all of a sudden…

She scratched her head and went over to her dresser. Took the tweezers and handed it to her 14 year old sister.

Ate… Best advice?? Exactly like the one you gave me when I have bullies…. Don’t mind him. Titigil di yun…

The next day…  Julie had her mind set on not giving Elmo the satisfaction of getting to her. He wasn’t going to ruin her day. But even for a really driven and determined Julie, it was hard.

He was noisy in class. Him and Sef. But somehow he manages to get all the questions right. It was like he had telepathy or something . It irritates her seeing him answer the questions she can’t. What irritates her more is the lop-sided smile he gives her whenever he’d caught her glaring at him.

When their professor told them that during their time volunteering, they’d be assigned partners. To learn how to cooperate and work together. They each took turns picking names from a box, so that the pairings would be fair. It was Julie’s turn, once she got hers, she prayed with all her might for her to be partnered to anyone else, besides Elmo.

And her prayer worked.

Sef.

It said. She exhaled. Now relieved that Elmo wasn’t her partner.

She was looking forward to her volunteering hours. It was fun to volunteer. Go somewhere else beside the city. Get a new perspective of things.

Goodluck, pre…. Sana your ears are still intact after the volunteering thing…. Elmo teased.

Sinu ba nakuha mo?

I don’t know… I didn’t listen… Lalapit nalang un….

Ikaw talaga… Maiwanan na nga kita diyan… Baka mamaya hindi ka makaimpake, pati mga damit mo makakalimutan mo!

Pssshh.. I’m not that careless…

But he is. One time, he forgot he was cooking lunch because he fell asleep after going to a party the night before.

He felt like there was no need to make a big deal out of things like these. Even though he almost burned down his apartment.

At a very young age, he was thought that he should expect much out of people. That , you can’t trust anybody, not even your parents. His mom left him, his dad didn’t want to be a dad. So he was moved into his tita’s care. Who eventually told him that she could care less… She told him he’d still get support from her, but he’d have to live separately.

He was let down before. So he doesn’t trust anyone. He took his life into his own hands. And that’s what he likes the most. He can do whatever he wants, whenever, wherever. No one would care. And he had nothing to lose. Because from the very beginning he already lost everything.

One Shot: Separated but Together

Oh… Lakad pa….

Julie, tingin ka kay Elmo…

Ayan… ready… Okay… action…

It was windy… like real windy. I had my shoes on my right hand, and my left hand clutching the stray strands of hair flying away.

As Elmo said his lines…

He smiles.

I smile.

It was a memorable last day of shoot. Subic ba naman. With a handsome young teenage boy, looking into my eyes, smiling. My hand on his hand. Perfect.

Psst…. Earth to Julie? Naririnig mo pa ba ako?

My reminiscing was interrupted by a friend’s voice. I haven’t heard her voice for a very long time.

Ay… sorry po… may naalala lang..

Ngaun na nga lang ulit tayo magkikita, tulala ka pa…. Oh well.. hindi ka parin nagbabago… in-love at blooming ka parin as always…

Things like these make me blush.

Ms Rose naman eh….. Nagbibiro ka nanaman… Parang nung nasa set lang…

She laughed. It’s been long.

Those jokes and mga biro did more good to you than you know…

She laughs again. But she’s right. It loosened everything. Causing me… and him… to open up more. Be closer.

Oo nga po eh…

Kung hindi dahil sa kakatukso at kaka-tease namin sainyo ni Tracy… Diba?

All I could do was laugh. Sila nga ung pasimuno talaga ng lahat ng yun. Those were the days.

As we walked on familiar corridors. I seem to have traveled back. The studio doors were mostly the same. The hallways were still the way it was. After all, it has only been what? 5… 6 years?

Buti nalang talaga Julie… you decided to go back to Showbiz.

She asked.

i can’t help it eh… singing is like breathing to me ms rose…

Which is true. But I took a break, to pursue my studies. The loveteam started to take a rest. And it was the time when my name wasn’t stuck to his for the benefit of our careers anymore.

But as we walk to the office. I see the poster, hanging on the wall. Like all other shows this network had. Our first ever show together. Together Forever.

I remember the red and blue streaks of hair that I used to wear. And the hats.

Once again I’m lost. Its been a while. Nakaka-miss rin pala magkaron ng kapartner in showbiz.

As I enter the office, Sir Joey was there. Always smiling. Just like before.

Kamusta ang bagong kasal? He laughs.

Mama Joey naman ehh…

And we both laugh. He still remembers.

Tell me… seriously… How was the wedding? I hear it was small lang. Just your family.. and his. Pero.. when you think about it… that’s enough for a wedding crowd…

I continue to blush. I knew this was going to happen.

Okay lang po… As I told you… It wasn’t that big. We wanted it simple.

Its soo you, Julie… But I’m happy for you…

Thanks…

But you’re returning to showbiz… namiss mo ko noh?

That… and I miss singing…

Don’t worry… The network is always ready to welcome you back.. I told you right?

This is what I should be grateful of… They still acknowledge me as the Julie they discovered when I was 11. They have a career ready for me when I come back.

When that was discussed… I was to go home. But of course… My friends got the news that I came back.. and before I knew it.. they’ve bombarded me with questions.

Pare!!!! Its been soooo long na!!!

Lexi greeted. She was still beautiful was always. Our antics were always memorable.

The usual crew was there.. Sef… Diva, Steven… Lexi… Maqui…

God… I missed them. What was I thinking when I was 20?

Kamusta ang buhay wifey?

They asked, pangasar lang.

tseh! ewan ko sayo, Sef… ask him…. you see him more than I do..

Hindi naman siya nagkkwento eh.. Parehas kayong secretive…

I just giggle. Good… he’d be in trouble if he’s telling stories.

Siguro… kayo ha….

Ano? Siguro ano?? I threatened him to continue… jokingly lang naman.

Wala… lagi kasi siyang masaya kapag nagwowork eh..

Kasi nga… He comes home to a lovely wife… Ikaw kasi, wala pa… ilang beses ba namin sasabihin, na settle down na?!

Maqui was always… maqui. We exchanged laughs… remembered all the fun days we had together.

Guys.. it was nice bumping into you… but I really have to go…

Okay lang!! We’ll see you around naman na eh… Lexi said

Sige… ingat, Julie!! Say hi to your ‘babe’ for me…

Lakas talaga ng trip nito ni Sef.

I got home. I’m still getting used to saying this. Home. Our home. The place was cute. Simple. Quiet. I took my shoes off, not really used to wearing heels anymore. But was I placed my handbag into the small table near the door, there was a note.

Hey,

Sorry I’m not here to explain.

I hope you’re not too tired.

I have a surprise. You have to play hide and seek muna..

Get in the BMW. The navigation system is on na.

Come and find me.

I’ll be waiting.

E

What is he up to now?

Wala naman kasing tao dito sa bahay. And I’m not used to sleeping alone at night. It’s either, I’m with my parents. Or lately, with him.

So I climbed in the other car. And glanced back. There was a small suitcase. It was mine. Clearly… kasi it was orange.

I turned the navigation on.

And I drove. It was almost dark. The sun was just starting to set. Wherever this was taking me. It was taking too long.

Nagugutom na ako.

Ang tagal ah.

It’s been 3 hours. I have the urge to call him. But… I don’t want to ruin the surprise.

At last..

You have arrived. At. Pause. Kamana Sanctuary Resorts and Spa.

Teka. What?

The door opens and the staff greets me.

Goodevening din.. I said.

Then a note was handed to me.

You’re getting warmer.

Join me.

I think you know where I am.

Ah… yes. I know where he is now. Grabe ah.. pinagod ako. 3 oras ba naman ang biyahe. Just for hide and seek.

When I thought I found him. He wasn’t there.

Hindi ko maintindihan. This was the place. Itong-ito talaga yun. I can’t be mistaken.

Galing ah….

I jumped at the sound of his voice.

Sorry… Nagulat ba kita?

I turned around and he was there. Handsome as always. Can’t believe how lucky I am.

I nodded.

Sorry….

He closed the space between us. Just like he always did before. Smiles, and pulls me close, with his arm on my waist.

One of the best places in the world. In his arms.

Nakakapagod ka… pinaghanap mo pa ako…

He chuckles. Taguan nga eh… version natin…

Ewan ko nga sayo… bumabalik nanaman pagkabata mo…

I buried my head in his chest. Inhaling his scent. Just this moment right here, was perfect. I close my eyes….

Ganun ba?…. Edi sagarin na natin…

Ha? anong sagarin?

The next thing I knew, he was pulling away from the embrace, stepping gettin infront of me, then turned around making me face his back. Then he crouched down. I must admit. Kahit na, asawa ko na siya.. he still manages to surprise me….

Sakay na..

Ha??

You heard me…

Elmo… Ano ba?

Sumakay ka na nga lang kasiii…

My husband… so pushyyyy. And so I did. But I was afraid.

Babe… di ba ako mabigat?

Ang sexy-sexy mo kaya… mabigat ka dyan..?

He always manages to do that. Make me blush like we were still 18.

Bakit nga ba tayo nagbabalik bata ulit?

I didn’t get to do this… the last time we were here…. But I wanted to… so badly.

The last time we were here? That was the last day of the shoot.

I wanted to do alot of things with you. But. We weren’t ready for that just yet.

True. We were still young. But… we knew what we felt. I don’t know if others saw it. But we sure did.

He continued walking. Along the shore line. Then he stopped, and I went down. He led me to the water. But took off my shoes first before he did.

We were there. Just staring at the moon.

Thanks.. I said.

For what?

He looked at me.

For waiting…. I know that was hard…

Wala na tayo dun, Julie… Tapos na un…

I know but-

No buts… I’m yours now… And you’re mine… For real this time. Hindi lang loveteam. Your name is stuck to mine.. legally now.

He laughed.

You know what? That last day… I wanted to ask you to come out here with me. Just the two of us lang… Balak sana kitang basain nun eh… But my mom went over the top as always. Asking to take pictures with the car…

I giggled. Remembering the tinted car. It was pretty.

But… gustong-gusto na talaga kitang solohin nun… Kaso lang, di rin nakisama ung panahon… Babasain pa naman sana kita…

During that premiere night? Nung Just One Summer?? When the credits rolled… I was soo proud of you… Of us. We’ve achieved so much at that age. And you looked stunning with that dress…. I can still remember.

I smile. Looking down at our feet being touched by the waves.

Nga pala… I have to warn you na…. Since I’ll be going back na ulit… What happens at home, stays at home ha? I told him. Remembering my conversation with Sef kanina.

Oo naman… bakit? May sinabi ba sayo si Sef kanina?

Wala nga eh.. Tinatanong niya kung kamusta daw buhay may asawa…

We both laugh.

Hindi ka talaga nagkkwento? I asked.

Konti…

Like what..? What do they know?

He smiled. and yet again, takes my breathe away.

He pulls me close again, but this time stares into my eyes. Oh those eyes….

Well… They know that I’m inlove, and I love you…

He draws his face close to hers. And softly kisses her on the lips. Leaving a smile.

Hmmm… what else?

That’s all they need to know…. Elmo murmured now busy leaving soft kisses on her cheeks, nose and forehead. Then a longer kiss on her lips. Leaving her breathless this time.

He combed her hair with his free hand. Admiring the woman he still can’t believe is his now. After so long. Who would ever thought that they’d end up together in real life?

Just like how their loveteam was formed. No one did expect any of this to happen.

If you ask me…. This is one of the most memorable sets… ever..

Talaga… bakit?

This is where i realized that… there is a possibility of spending the rest of my life with you…

At the age of 18? Seriously, Moe?

It was a small voice…. I just heard it… but I listened…

He brushed the back of his hand on her cheeks.

Ang cute mo parin… hanggang ngaun…

Nako… yang kalandian mo nanaman, Magalona… umiiral nanaman ah!

Where would we be if wala ung kalandian ko..? He joked.

I just simply smiled and shook my head.

Wala pa nga un eh… Marami pa akong balak gawin nun.. kaso lang.. baka di kayanin nung mga adiks… sisihin pa ako sa cause of death nila…

Marami pa? Pa? What else do you have under your sleeve, Mr. Magalona…?

I caught your attention at last… akala ko you”ll be clueless for a long time… Marami pa… but I came up with most of it as the years passed….

Really?

Are you interested to find out?

Always am….

He chuckled.

You’re amazing… No wonder you’re my wife….

With that he scooped her up and kissed her.

Yes.. I married my loveteam partner. A fan’s dream come true. But I would never thought of it without thinking that the loveteam might be broken as well.

When that moment happened. When the big bosses told us that our careers will go solo. It occurred to me that somehow, I was used to the idea of seeing her everyday, saying hi, goodmorning… asking her if she ate breakfast already.. I was already living with her. For so long.

I wanted that name..JuliElmo… to last. Her name stuck to mine… always. And it did. But in a different form now. Walang makakapaghiwalay samin. Nawala man ung loveteam… andito parin kami…. Our names are still stuck to each others. And it will always stay that way.

In the shoes of a Globie Adik

Its amazing what these two can do.

Aside from effortlessly depriving us of oxygen, killing us over and over with their chemistry… Julie and Elmo have also managed to unite Adiks, not only in the Philippines, but also all over the world…..

But before we talk about that, let me tell you a “short” story first….

It all started when my mom, who’s name is Julie, yes, I know… noticed, well, Julie. The giddy, funny, and cute Julie Anne San Jose. She began singing all of my mom’s favorite songs. And soon it became a mother-and-daughter thing. We bonded over the competition (Pop Star Kids) and we cheered for Julie all the time!

But when she didn’t make it.. I stopped watching Local TV, because it was the same time when my dad got cable, and we got hooked on Disney Channel and stuff.. (What? I was 11 years old!!! LOL)

I would see Julie, once in a while… My dad had connections, and we used to watch SOP live. I would see her, but I wasn’t as huge as a fan as I am today..

Fast-forward 6 years….

I got news, we were to move (AGAIN) to a different country. It was fine when I was like 10, 9 or 8 years old… But I was already a freshman, taking Nursing. I was like…

But in the end… I had to. No tyoisss…

Akala ko… When we get to Canada, mas magiging addicted ako sa mga hollywood stars. But the unexpected happened.

The house that we stayed in, only had one channel that was on all the time. AS IN ALL THE TIME. And that was GMA Pinoy TV.

At first it was annoying… But then… I saw this…

Sa Party P…. I was like “Sino sila?”

Sabi ni tita… “Anak ni Kiko… tsaka si Julie Anne…”

All I could think was…. “Si Julie Anne na pala yan?!?!”

That’s when it started again… But this time, with Elmo.

And so it begins…

Being a Globie is fun, exciting, hassle kung minsan… But if there is one thing I regret… that is, not being a fan earlier than I did.

I haven’t realized how hard it was to be a globie, until this weekend. When my family forced me to join them to go on a vacation. The first thing I asked…

“May wifi ba?”

LOL.

One of the demands of an adik. Friggin, Wifi.

But…. guess what, when we got there? I didn’t get the chance to even go to the room. It was, straight, going on tourist views and waterparks right away.

I was like…. “Yeah, sure… as long as we get to the room by 12 noon….”

It was a tongue-in-cheek moment… I had to stop myself from bursting like a mad woman. Because, I have sent a gift to Julie, through a friend, I needed to know if it’s been given to her.

It was the most agonizing, most torturous day of my entire Adik life. LOL whuuut???

Not having access to anything. ANYTHING. And I mean, TWITTER, TUMBLR, LIVESTREAM….

image

Ang Labo men……

image

Everyone in the hotel, was either out, going to the bar, the pool, hot tub or waterpark. And there I was. Stuck. I can’t tire myself, because of an open cut I had   earlier that week. So imagine the torture.

And all they say the next day was…. “Alright!!! Who’s up for Niagara Falls…”

“I thought you said we were going home!!!!” Was all I could think of.

image

It was only when this happened, when I realized how hard it is, being a globie adik. Hard… but worth it. :)

The country I’m currently in, has the same numbers on the clock in the Philippines, pero kabaliktaran ng araw.Kung day dyan, night dito.

So livestreaming, you need to prepare that around 11:30 pm. If I get a great one…

image

And once their prod comes on…

image

You have to keep it in…. Because its about 1 am here na nun….

Then when Together Forever comes on….its about 3 am na nun….

But still… para akong nakainom ng isang galon na cape… hindi man lang inaantok. Ewan ko. JuliElmo eh…

Mahirap din kapag you’re with friends… Especially dun sa mga friends na taga kabilang station.

This is what I get when I mention ‘JuliElmo’

“Ah…. ayun? I don’t feel kilig with them…”

image

“Ano ba kasing meron diyan sa kanila… mas maganda pa ung ********* (another loveteam)”

image

And what I hate the most is …. “You’re so… fresh-from-the-boat”…..

image

Recently… Nakapag-skype ako.. with other Globies…. Having friends to talk to, be crazy with… talk about the things you go craaaay about….it feels….

image

It feels great, kahit boses lang. Mahirap kasing makahanap ng isang Adik talaga.

But know what?

Despite all the hassle… seeing the two of them like this…

It’s SOOOOOOOOOOO WORTH IT.

Worth it maging fan. Wala akong regrets.

Worth it maging Globie. They help me keep the filipina fan girl in me.

Worth it maging JuliElmo Globie Adik.

SPOTTED Finally (OneShot)

Julie looked around the parking lot. She always seemed to have a habit of being too early in everything. Luckily she had a good book to get busy with.

“Ma, sure kang sinabi ni Ms Tracy na 7:00 magkikita? Sa parking lot ba daw?” She asked.

“Oo.. ayun ang sabi niya eh…” Her mom answered, also reading a book of her own.

“Tawagan ko nga ulit..” She tried.

As she dialed, Ms Tracy picked up.

“Julie… asan ka na?”

“Nasa parking lot po… diba dito magkikita?”

“Taas ka na, hija… Sa may Starbucks…”

“Okay po… Sino na ba po ung nandoon??” She wondered.

“Andun na sila Lexi… Ako nalang tsaka ikaw hinihintay… una kana, malapit narin ako..”

“Sige po..”

So she told her mom and they got off the car. They took an elevator, trying to avoid people. Julie was here for fun, bonding times with her castmates and friends. It was Ms Tracy’s idea to go watch a movie together, for the cast to be closer to each other and bond.

When she got up there, they were having such an animated conversation. It was a nice aura. Stress free, and for once, it was just them hanging out. Like kids their age do.

“Oh… pare! Andito ka na..sa wakas!! Naiinip na ung isa- I mean kami… kanina pa kami naghihintay eh… Si Ms Tracy kasama mo?” Lexi asked.

“Eh.. hindi eh… padating na daw siya..” Julie said.

“Anak, magggrocery lang ako.. text ka nalang kapag tapos na kayo..” Julie’s mom said, also a way of saying that she’d leave her daughter to enjoy this night, she deserves it.

“O sige po Ma,… Ingat kayo..” Julie waved goodbye as her mom walked away.

Julie was about to start a conversation when..

“Sorry i’m late!! Sorry… let’s go na… did everyone wait too long ba?” Ms Tracy asked.

“Hindi naman po..” They all answered, somewhere along those lines.

So they went to the movie theater’s. Ms Tracy picked the last showing for the night, just so there wouldn’t be that much people and the kids would enjoy it without stressing about the public. As they settled in their seats, it was Julie and Elmo who were to sit last. But Julie noticed something fishy. The seating arrangement was far too… arranged. (LOL) It was Steven, Lexi, blank seat, blank seat, then Ms Tracy then Sef.

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay… Julie wondered.

Elmo on the other hand seemed to have no problem at all. All he did was smile and gestured that Julie should go first. She made her way across and sat beside Lexi, who was talking with Steven since they were in Starbucks.

Elmo took the last seat, in between Julie and Ms Tracy. They’ve planned this, Elmo thought to himself. But he doesn’t mind.

“Okay ka lang?” Elmo whispered, making Julie jump, startled.

“Ha-haaa? Ah.. oo.. okay lang..” She said.

Elmo chuckled.

“Ano nga ba ulit ung papanuorin natin?” Julie asked, quite flustered by Elmo sitting closely beside her.

“The Dark Knight Rises.. Di ko pa kasi napapanuod yun eh… Eh.. boys win… So eto..” He said.

“ahh..”

“Bakit…? Ayaw mo ba ng action movies?… Dapat sinabi mo.. napalitan pa sana natin..” Elmo said.

“Hindi… Mas gusto ko nga toh, kesa sa romance eh.. Masyado nang marami ung nababasa kong books..” She added with a smile.

“Talaga… that’s good then… don’t worry, I’ll tell you when to cover your eyes.. kung meron mang nakakatakot na part..” Elmo smiled back.

HALA. Masyado siyang malapit!!!! MAYGEEED. Julie thought.

“Pano mo naman alam?” She said, believing that she’s still hasn’t lost her cool.

“Secret…” Elmo winked at her.

O.O Ano daw??? This made Julie more flustered than she was.

And as Elmo saw her reaction, he chuckled quietly once more. “I read the reviews, and some spoilers…” And smiled.

Julie just shook her head and giggled. Sometimes, being with him can give her so many emotions, she doesn’t know how to deal with all of them.

“Well don’t spoil it for us…” Sef said, now interrupting them in their own little bubble.

The two realized how close their distance was. It felt like it was just the two of them in there. Probably because of the silence, darkness and the whispering. As they take in their positions and looks, they shifted. To a more, friendlier distance, remembering that there are still people around them.

As the movie went on, everyone seemed to enjoy it. As usual, the girls are the most outspoken. You’d hear ‘hala’ and ‘ayan na’ coming from them, while from the boys, not even a squeak.

Around the middle part of the movie, Elmo noticed Julie rubbing her arms with her hands. She was getting cold.

“Julie.. okay ka lang?” Elmo asked.

“Oo… don’t worry about me…”

But Elmo’s hand touched hers, and immediately he could tell that Julie was shivering with the cold. There was barely any people inside the movie theater, just a pinch of body heat from them.

“Eto oh… sayo nalang… Giniginaw ka na kaya..  mamaya magkasakit ka pa eh..” Elmo said, taking his jacket off and giving it to  a surprised Julie.

Everyone seemed to be so surprised of Elmo’s gesture.

“Hindi na… okay lang.. May sakit ka rin kaya…” Juie reasoned.

It was true, Elmo had been experiencing a bad cold lately. It was messing with his sinuses and voice.

“Pagaling na ako… Kapag ikaw nagka sakit, lagot kami ni Tita Tracy…  Kawawa naman ang fans sa sunday kung may sakit ka..”

Elmo was persuasive. He got Julie to wear his jacket. And when he was satisfied that he won the fight, he smiled at Julie who was busy watching the movie again.

“Kung hindi ako nagkakamali, Moe… Iba ata kinikilos mo ah… Ano na ba yan…” Ms Tracy asked directly.

“Tita… I’m just looking out for her… she is my partner after all… We have to work together…-“

“Shhhhhhhhhh” Lexi said, who was really trying to watch the movie.

Elmo smiled. Saved by the bell, he thought.

It was the first time the cast bonded, not for job or promotion purposes, but simply because they needed to enjoy themselves.

Towards the end of the movie, Elmo’s vision was disturbed by a bright light from Julie. She was checking her phone.

“Uy… bawal yan..” He joked.

“Just checking the time… Medyo late na kasi eh..” Julie said.

Elmo looked at his watch, it was a bit late na. Almost 9.

“May class ka pa bukas, right?”

“Oo… pero nothing big naman… new lessons lahat ng subjects.” Julie said.

“Nice…So… okay lang sayo na magdinner tayo?” Elmo asked.

“Ha-haa?”

“Magdidinner daw kasi after this, sabi ni Tita… Please tell me you’ll go..”

“Ah… okay… sure..”

There was 5 minutes left of the movie, yet Julie can’t concentrate on understanding it. She was too busy understanding, Elmo.Recently, this guy has been pretty… let’s just say, sweet. She knows that their relationship is growing, but now it seemed like it was on steroids.

Sure she was used to his habit of taking her hand to help her get down stairs because of her heels, gazing into his eyes for a prod, and their times together in taping Together Forever.

But there was just something that they both can’t put together. They just don’t want to, as of now. What they say to the press is true, if its meant to happen, it will. They won’t need that much effort if its bound to happen

Before she knew it, the movie was already done. Elmo already stood up, and looked at her, wondering why she was still sitting down.

His chuckle drew Julie back from her thoughts.

“Ay… tapos na pala…” Julie laughed.

Everyone laughed with her. She stood up and they started walking. Julie walked behind them, already a little bit tired.

“Pagod ka na?” Elmo asked.

“Ahm… medyo…Nakakapagod maglakad eh..” Julie said,

“Carry kita, gusto mo?” Elmo said jokingly, they both laughed.

There was barely any people  at the mall now, its about to close and they were enjoying the privacy they were getting. There may be a few looks and points, but it didn’t disturb them.

“Ano… enjoy ba?” Elmo continued the conversation. He was comfortable talking to her now, no more awkwardness or second thoughts. In fact, if there was anyone that he would love to work with, it was Julie. They understand each other, simple as that. Understand when it comes to work, their drive for music, humor…

“Oo naman… Minsan lang naman tong ganito eh…”

“Tama… tapos kasama pa ako, di ba? Could it get any better?” Elmo said, joking again.

The smile that his jokes would give stayed on Julie’s face until they went back to Starbucks. The two, unaware of the happenings around them, forgot they were heading back to their meeting place and not dinner.

Lexi, Steven and Sef were now sitting on the table when Julie and Elmo walked behind them, still laughing.

“Enjoy na enjoy kayo ah..” Sef commented.

Mas lalong tumawa ung dalawa, causing the three to exchange knowing looks.

“So Julie… what do you think of the movie?” Steven ask.

“It was okay..” Julie said. Tipid ang sagot but smiling.

“Yun lang? Okay? It was epic man!” Sef answered with much exaggeration.

“Hay… naku… Wag niyo ngang guluhin yan si Julie… Eh sa okay nga daw eh…Hindi naman kasi sila nanunuod ni Elmo…” Lexi laughed.

“Oo nga! Ang iinggay ng dalawang toh…” Ms Tracy added. “Usap sila ng usap dun, katabi ko pa man din…”

“Same here tita!” Lexi added.

But Julie and Elmo just laughed it off. They were just waiting to get picked up, but when Steve, Lexi and Sef said that they all were going, something was up.

“Sasama narin ako sakanila, my car is in GMA rin kasi eh..” Ms Tracy added. “Si mama mo? Natext mo na?” She asked Julie.

“Itetext ko palang po..”

“Ikaw, Moe?”

“I texted the driver already, tita… on the way na yun..”

“Okay… wag kang aalis ng hindi pa nakakaalis si Julie ah? Walang kasama yan..” Bilin ni Ms Tracy.

“Of course… “

The trio stood up, as well as Ms Tracy. They all had the same smiles on their faces. Lexi was really noticeable. Parang pinipigilan ung kilig ba.

“Sige ha?? Maiwanan na namin kayo…” Sef said, half laughing.

They started walking away…A loud  ”Ayiiiiheee” was heard and they bursted out laughing.

“Baliw-baliw talaga ung si Sef…”

“Oo nga eh.. kalog masyado…” Julie said, fidgeting with her water bottle.

“May pagka bata rin minsan… kaya pati ako nahahawaan eh..” Elmo said.

“Ikaw?? Minsan ka lang kaya maging makulit…”

“Hindi noh… I’ll prove it to you… guess my favorite drink…”

As he said this, he leaned closer to the table, closer to Julie who was right infront of him.

“Soda?” Julie guessed.

“Hindi… Bawal na kaya yun… Papagalitan mo ‘ko kapag uminom ako nun eh..”

“Tama… “

“Sirit na?”

Julie nodded, smiling.

“Yung mga yogurt drink… Alam mo un?” Elmo said.

Julie laughed so hard. She thought it was soda… But it was an unexpected answer. For a guy like Elmo, she never thought that he’d like yogurt drinks.

“Bakit? You don’t believe me?” Elmo asked.

“No..” Julie said, still laughing.

So Elmo stood up, went to the small fridge Starbucks had for kiddie drinks and bought a small box of Dutchmilk Blueberry flavored Yogurt drink. He poked the straw in and began to sip it infront of Julie. Who was still laughing.

“Ang cute talaga ng tawa mo…” Elmo said out of the blue.

Ano daw??? Kasi naman eh… Julie thought.

“Pati ung face mo, kapag natawa… Lumiliit ung mata… Ang cute lang..” Elmo continued.

“Wehh..”

“Oo nga..” Elmo said, convincing her it was true. His eyes traveled around Julie’s face, then he thought of something. “San ka mascomfortable? Kapag naka ponytail hair mo, or when it’s down lang?” He asked.

“Kahit alin naman eh..”

“Let your hair down nga… I wanna see..”

Julie laughed more… The way Elmo was when it was just the two of them. Sometimes he’s a kid, sometimes he’d be like an over protective boyfriend. Both sides are good… Somehow they just wish he’d be both.

So she agreed, and pulled on her ponytail, letting her hair fall down all the way to her waist. It was getting long.

“I never noticed how long your hair is na pala…”

“Lagi tayong magkasama, di mo nahahalata?” Julie asked.

“Hindi.. Because I’m too busy thinking of what to say next… Too busy to notice anything around us, kasi… wala lang… you make me feel that way eh..” Elmo said.

What the hell am I doing??? He asked himself.

“Ang saya mo kasi kausap… besides your laugh, your eyes seem to keep me captive” He says.. still going on and letting the words come out.

“Ano daw? Nosebleed, Moe…” Julie said, still keeping it light. But like all girls, let’s face it… sinong hindi kikiligin sa sinabi nung mokong na yun? Kahit sino naman siguro makakaramdam ng kahit kaonti di ba?

“Sabi ko… I like your eyes…” Elmo said. “…And your voice, your laugh, your giggles, your hands, your attitude, your personality, your charm…. You. I like you, Julie…”

Finally… He got to say it. Not in song lyrics, or rap.. but in real words, with her infront. Not just a mirror in his room.

Julie felt like her cheeks were going to rip, she was smiling way too much. Elmo has a way with doing that. Making her speechless with his way of words.

Now she understood. His sudden change of moves during production numbers, his smiles, his actions, the way he holds her hand, the way the gazes at her when she’d hit a high note.

“I don’t know what to say to that, Moe..” She replied with a light chuckle.

Somehow all along they knew it would come to this. That this would happen. Going out with friends, a movie or dinner. Spending time together. In a whole week, its almost as if they would be with each other for most of the days. Yet time still isn’t enough for them. Atleast not with 50 crew and directors surrounding them.

“How about… ‘I like you too..’” Elmo said now putting on that lop-sided smile of his.

“Ano pa nga ba…” Julie said, looking down then smiling.

“Yes!.. sabi mo yan ha..” Elmo exclaimed “Talaga ha?”

“Ikaw ba naman kasing pakiligin ng ganon? Maiiwasan ko bang hindi ako mabisto?” Julie said, now laughing.

“Ako pa…”

They both laughed. They knew it all along. They just really needed time, and the right moment. Who would’ve thought that a simple movie date would start it all.

“So, since… nagkaalaman na tayo… maybe…we could do this more often?” Elmo asked.

Nakakapanibago talaga tong si Elmo…Biglang… what’s the word… Lumandi, ba. Julie thought, remembering the tweets she would see after each prod in Party Pilipinas the past few weeks. She laughed at the memory.

“Are you asking me out?” Julie said, still not sure.

“Hindi ba obvious.??” Elmo laughed. “Julie naman eh… Nahihiya na nga ako, yes na kasi…”

She laughed at his expression. He looked…..cute. Like a child, almost. It was quite an amusing site.

“Of course.. san ang susunod? Sa Together Forever taping? Sa Tech Reh ba or sa Just One Summer Premiere?” Julie joked.

“Kasi naman eh……” Elmo said, laughing now.

“Ano?”

“How about this… after you come from school nalang.. bukas.. I’ll meet you sa Studio? Then we can have dinner together…” Elmo suggested..

“That’s too much… let’s start small..”

“Okay…-“

Julie waved all of a sudden, it was her mom. And it was time to go home. She had fun, this night was truly a night to remember. Because of many things. But one memory will stand out from the rest.

“Ayan na pala si Tita.. Let’s go..” Elmo said. He walked with Julie to the parking lot, and when he got to her car, he said goodbye to Julie’s mom who went in the car first.

“O cya… This was fun… Sana maulit…” Julie said.

“Mauulit talaga for sure…” Elmo said, causing them to laugh. “Inggat ah.. Tulog ka agad when you get home…wag ka ng magtweet…”

“Deal.. ikaw rin dapat ah..”

“Okay…”

He leaned in for a goodbye hug, but didn’t expect a kiss on the cheek from Julie. Then she hugged him.

“Thanks for speaking up, Moe… Finally..”

He smiled. Finally, he thought. We’re getting there, Julie…

END.

Waaaaaaaah Di ko mapigilan. Di ako makagetover!! Finally a spotted pic nilang dalawa. The one shot is really crappy. Sana maenjoi ninyo. :) Haha… At sana ganito talaga ung nangyari. my Imagination went wild na kasi kagabi. Eto ang result. Thanks for reading! :)

STOLEN Epilogue

“To the right….No, no… wait. Left pala, left…” Julie had her hand on her chin and the other hand on her waist. She was squinting her eyes to get a better view of the picture frame that was being hung on the wall.

“Taas pa ng kaonti.. Baba… Ayun… Hold it, right there! Perfect!!” She exclaimed.

Elmo shook his head with a smile. He finished hanging the last picture frame on the wall. And got down from the small ladder, he was chuckling.

“What? What’s funny?” Julie asked.

“That’s where it was in the first place, ‘theart.. You just made me go around with the thing..”  He said, smiling at Julie’s confused look.

“Hindi kaya… Pano mo alam? eh ako ung tumitingin eh…”

“Ako kaya ung gumagalaw nung frame…”

“Mamili ka, ‘theart (sweetheart) … Sinong tama, ikaw o ako?” She asked.

“Ako…” Elmo answered jokingly.

“Okay… goodluck nalang sa honeymoon mo, ‘theart… I hope you’ll enjoy the new couch…” she smiled teasingly.

“I was kidding, Babe!!” Elmo said as he followed his young wife to their new kitchen. “You’re right….Galing mo nga magdecorate eh… Its the most innovative and awesomely designed prison cell..” He went over to where she was standing, near the sink. And slowly slid his hands around her waist.

His hands claimed her waist and wrapped her in a tight embrace. She gave in and smiled.

“Ikaw talaga, bolero ka talaga kahit kailan….” She said, as she turned around and face him. Even though they’re married and all, the warm, chocolate eyes of his always made her knees go weak. She had her arms around his neck in return.

She still can’t believe how fast everything happened. One night they were finally figuring out what they were feeling, a proposal after 30 minutes, then a wedding after 3 months. Julie insisted on no expensive honeymoon. She wanted to spend time in their new house. It was like the last 4 years never happened. It was a long forgotten memory. Sealed in a bottle and thrown into the sea, not to be worried about anymore. They were happily married.

“Oo na.. sabi mo eh..” He whispered and smiled. But this smile disappeared when Julie turned back around to wash the dishes in the sink.

Lumalabas nanaman ang pagka-tease nitong si Julie. He thought. They’ve been decorating since they got here. There was no sign of a honeymoon since. When they got to the house, Julie immediately changed into a shirt and capri, and started. So he positioned his face near Julie’s cheeks..

“Babe…” He called. And when she turned to look, he immediately kissed her.

“Ikaw!!!” she playfully slapped his shoulder, splashing some soap as well. “Pati halik nagnanakaw ka!!”

“Nandito na tayo, nakakulong together, can it get any better than this? ” He chuckled. And continued kissing her cheeks now.

It was one of Julie’s favorite kisses from Elmo. The ones that were sweet and soft. It made her smile.

“Moe… tanghaling tapat… Di ba pwedeng mamayang gabi na? Pawis na pawis ako oh…Baho baho ko pa” She looked at her hands and legs. There was a few dashes of paint and dust. It clearly wasnt attractive.

Elmo turned Julie around. And gazed into her eyes with a smile.

“When are you ever going to see yourself, the way I see you? You look beautiful, Julie… Masmaganda pa nga kesa kapag nakamake up… You look perfect.” He said, then caressed her cheeks.

“You’re too sweet… But seriously though, tanghaling-tanghali eh…”

“Madaya naman eh..”

“Tapusin muna natin to… iaassemble nalang ung coffee table oh, tapos ung ‘dimmer’ para dun sa lights sa bedroom… oh, tapos na…”

“Ehhhh..”

“Please ‘theart??” she kissed him lightly on the lips. “Pretty please?”

“Sige na nga… alin ang una? Coffee table or dimmer?” He asked, pulling away from the hug.

“Coffee table na, then after you put the dimmer sa room… maybe, just maybe ha?… we could… you know..” she smiled, teasing once again.

“Okie dokes… coffee table coming right up….” Elmo said right away.

When they finished their own tasks, Elmo looked around to look for Julie. The faucet wasn’t running anymore, so he looked at the living room and saw Julie curled up in a ball on the sofa. She was looking around the house, then she met Elmo’s eyes.

He joined her on the sofa.

“What’s on your mind, babe?”

“I’m just imagining what the house might look like after 5 years… Everything else is still unbelievable… I can’t believe that all of this is real…”

He snuggled up to Julie. She was still curled up in a ball, but now on Elmo’s lap. Her head resting on Elmo’s shoulders and Elmo’s hands around her.

“In 5 years?? There will be a few toys scattered all around. The room on the other side will always smell like baby powder, there will be baby bottles sa kitchen, and pitter patter of small cute feet ang maririnig natin-“

“Teka… after 5 years pa tayo magkakababy?? Ba’t antagal…??”

“Because I want you all to myself for a while… ” He said with a sneaky smile.

This made Julie blush. So she just shook her head and smiled.

“Anyways…as I was saying… You’ll look as lovely as ever, beautiful and gorgeous. You’ll be the best wife.. And I will always be the luckiest man on earth. We’ll be inlove like the first time. And we’ll still be under the sentence of living with each other as long as we both live, for crimes against stealing each other’s hearts….Does that sound good?”

Julie closed her eyes and smiled. She opened them and looked into Elmo’s eyes.

“It sounds perfect…”

Their life as a married couple was a dream come true. Their house was filled with laughter and happiness each day. Sometimes they’d do the silliest things, like turn all the lights off and play hide and seek. They had a huge house all to themselves, which mostly means that Elmo lost all the time. He’d give up and beg Julie to come out wherever she was hiding from. But not all times are good times. Like all couples, they’ve had their own fair share of fights and small arguements. Like one time when Julie overheard Elmo’s secretary gossiping to a fellow worker about how Elmo was ‘flirting’ with her.

She locked him out.

Luckily, Julie forgot about the key under the small pot outside the door. She was running to the door, but was too late to keep it locked, Elmo was already inside.

“Why are you mad?”

“I’m not mad..” Julie said, walking away now.

“Okay.. I don’t want to say that you’re lying but, you are babe…  What’s wrong?”

“You tell me, Elmo… “

He loosened his necktie. He was in big trouble. Problem is, he doesn’t know why.

“I know you’re going to hate me more, but I really have no idea…” He said honestly.

“Lies.”

Ouch. Well that hurt. He thought.

“Whatever it is… I love you and I never meant to hurt, make you mad or angry in anyway… Please?” He pleaded.

“I wanted to surprise you with lunch today, I went by your office, and… narinig ko si Carmen na nakikipag usap kay Sandra… she said you were flirting with her…” Julie said, straight. Then she turned around and leaned back on the kitchen counter with her arms across her chest.

“Flirted? I don’t even let her in my office for too long!! And besides, that girl’s delusional. She’s been telling false stories about her and Rod from accounting….”

Julie had her tongue in her cheek. She doesn’t know if she should believe him or not.

“Why would I flirt with anyone else? When I know that when I come home, I come home to the most beautiful, most gorgeous and most amazing woman ever..??” He said, slowly approaching Julie by the counter.

“Tumigil ka, Elmo ha… Di pa tayo tapos…  ” Julie warned.

“Alam ko… nagexplain lang naman ako eh…”

“Talaga?”

“Oo nga… and besides, di ko siya type. At isa pa, kasal na ako and content with my life. I have the best wife to go home to, what more could I want?”

“Talaga lang ah?”

He was a feet away from her now, but her arms were still crossed. Elmo was sincere, and honest. And that small smile on his face was proof enough.

“Oo nga… kaya sige na, ‘theart.. ung ‘welcome home’ kiss ko na….” Then he pouted, like a kid. Making Julie smile and shake her head.

“Ayaw ko nga..”

“Kunwari ka pa…” Then he kissed her lightly on the lips, with no resistance from his wife. “I’m home babe.. “

Life as a married couple was mostly ups, and a few downs. It was fun and exciting to them. And you know what they say about fun… it makes time go by fast. Soon enough, it has already been a year.

Elmo was watching a movie with a sleeping Julie. Julie’s head was on the other side of the sofa, and her legs were on his lap. Suddenly Julie was gasping for air, waking up from a dream probably.

“Oh… what happened? You okay, babe?” Elmo asked as he paused the movie. He scooted over to Julie, now taking her into his lap.

“Yeah…. okay lang… nalulunod kasi ako sa dream ko… ewan ko ba…” Julie had her hand on her chest, still in a daze from waking up.

“Sigurado ka lang na okay ka? You need water?” He asked, still worried.

“Yeah…. I’m good, babe… thanks..” She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was past 1 pm. And they were supposed to go out for lunch. A small date. “Naku!! You didn’t wake me up… late na pala tayo…” She stood up slowly.

“I cancelled the reservation…You looked sooo cute sleeping eh…”

“Ha?? Why??” She stopped on her tracks.

“Do you remember what happened on this day, a year ago?” Elmo asked.

“Ahmm…. It was the rainiest day of the year, Filipino Week sa school, then Independence day…” Julie said making her way into the kitchen to grab an apple.

“Yeah… that, and it was the day I saw you in that coffee shop… remember? Hinatid kita pauwi… pero you forgot your keys, and you stayed at my condo…” Elmo walked to Julie.

“Mhhmm…” Julie said.

“You stayed over, and wore my shirt… Tapos,.. I told you I love you…tama?”

Julie smiled as she remembered. She was soaked in rain that day.

“Yup…”

“Tell me… What happened after that na nga?” Elmo asked smiling. Of course he knew… He just wants to see what Julie would do next.

“I think… it was this… ” And she leaned in and kissed him. Her soft lips on his was the most amazing feeling in the world. It felt right, as always. It felt like it was going to last forever.

Elmo pulled away, smiling. “Teka, di naman ganun katagal yun eh..”

“Hindi nga… eh sa gusto ko eh..” Julie said, then resumed the kiss.

She kissed and he kissed back. His hands now on her waist and back. Slowly he hoisted her up on the counter so that she wouldn’t tiptoe that much. As the kiss ended, their foreheads were on each one’s. They both smiled. Elmo kissed her nose, then her forehead, her ears then her cheeks, making her giggle.

“Happy anniversary, Julie…” He held her face between his hands. “I love you…”

“I love you too, Elmo..”

STOLEN 10

He walked closer and closer. How did he find me here? Bakit siya nandito? She asked.

“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself, Miss San Jose…” He said cutting into the conversation.

“I’m sorry, to take you away, but I really need to talk to you… privately.” Elmo said.

“That won’t be necessary, Mr. Magalona…” she said.

“I don’t think you understood me… its IMPORTANT.”

It’s rude to refuse, in anyway. So Elmo gestured to his right, showing the way to a part of the room where there were not that much people.

“What is your problem-“

“You owe me something.” Elmo stared at her serious and blank.

“What?!”

“You owe me alot of things. For example, and explanation, perhaps?”

“Di ko kailangan sumagot sayo…”

“Well, considering what you took from me, I think you do..”

Julie narrowed her eyes at him. “Took from you? What? Your shirt? I’ll give it back to you I promise, I haven’t done my laundry yet.. Is that it?”

“No, that is not it… ” He took her hand into his and led her to the front door of the hall. They were on their way to the parking lot.

“What do you think you’re doing now? Where the hell are you taking me? The auction is not done yet!”

It was like he wasn’t hearing anything. He was still walking with her towards his car.

“Elmo, ano ba?! Let go!”

So he did.

“Hindi ka ba nakakaintindi? I left that note for a reason. Bakit ba kailangan mo pa akong sundan hanggang dito?” she asked, clearly annoyed.

“First, nakakaintindi ako, Julie. And second, hindi kita sinundan, ako ang head ng organization ng auction na toh.. and I had no plans of seeing or bringing you here…happy?”

“No… can I go back in now?”

“Hindi ko expected na magkikita tayo, so its all the more reason for me to ask you to please, get in the car…. with me.”

Julie’s eyes widened, her eyebrows furrowed and her lips were pursed. Ano ba talagang balak mo, Elmo? she asked internally.

“What makes you think I will go with you? Sorry, but I have better things to do..” She said.

“Stop hurting yourself, please. Just get in… I promise you, you won’t regret it.” He pleaded.

“No… Find someone else, Moe…” She said those words, refusing to look him in the eye.

“If you walk back… I’ll just drag you back here, you know that right?” He said with sa small, sneaky smile.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Fine. She decided. “Fine.”

With a winning smile, Elmo opened the front door for her and helped her inside the car. When he got himself settled in, he started to drive.

“Where exactly are you taking me?” Julie asked. She had her arms across her chest, her shoulders all tense.

“Somewhere familiar….” was all he said.

And it was somewhere familiar. It was his family’s house. Where everything started. The plans of making Sam and Lauren fall for them. They both thought it was the best thing ever, genius to be exact. They never expected the plan to backfire on them though.

Elmo helped her get down and unlocked the front door. The house looks like no one’s been there for a long time.

“And we are back to where we started….” Julie muttered.

“I told you it was somewhere familiar…”

“Sana sinabi mo nalang na sa dating bahay ninyo…edi sana-“

“Sana ano? Agad kang sasakay sa kotse ko? I don’t believe it..Kahit na sabihin ko na sa kanto lang tayo.. di ka parin sasama… sa katigasan ba naman ng ulo mo eh..”

“But you did win…”

They were just standing there. Near the staircase, infront of the living room.

“Kahit kailan naman, hindi naman talaga ako mananalo… Somehow you always manage to convince me do everything..” Julie said with a smile, now remembering the old memories they had.

He chuckled. “Malakas ako sayo eh… naaalala mo pa ba yun?”

“Oo naman… Ikaw kaya ung naguuto sakin na magsuot ng mga damit na binigay ng kapatid mo nun…”

Their laughter echoed the empty rooms around the house. It was just them, alone. In a place that’s familiar, yet it felt as if its been more than 10 years.

“Bakit mo ba ako dinala dito, Moe? Sabihin mo na, kasi I’m done playing games..”

“Sino ba kasing nagsabi na naglalaro ako?…” Elmo said, walking up to the stairs. He took two steps going up. Then he turned around to face Julie herself. “Why did you leave? That night after I found you,… why did you leave?”

Eto na nga ba ang sinasabi ko… She thought. “Hindi ka ba marunong magbasa, Elmo? Sinabi ko na… It’s not righ-“

“That’s it? Yun yung excuse mo?? Tssss… If you come up with a convincing excuse, like the truth.. I’ll leave you alone.” He said.

But Julie had no such thing. She was discouraged by Lauren’s phone call that early morning. She felt like the old Julie, yung kinaaawaan ng lahat. It was painful but she was convinced of what Lauren said.

“You don’t deserve him, Julie… How can you even think that? From the very beginning… You know it. The only reason he stood by you after the sem-break was because he felt sorry for you… “

The tears were on the edge of falling from her eyes. She could barely get her thoughts together on that early morning. The phone was slipping through her hand too.

“What do you want me to do?? I can’t just leave him… I think I-“

“You what?? Love him? I hate to see you get hurt, Julie. I know I’m not your bestfriend any more, but I still care…. There’s only one thing you can do… Leave, and make sure he doesn’t see you again…”

“What?!?”

“Trust me… It will save you alot of hurt in the future…”

Julie was still staring into blank space. She was still remembering that night, when Elmo’s voice interrupted her thoughts.

“Whatever she said to you.. was all a lie. In fact it’s the opposite of what she was saying… I just don’t understand why you’d still believe her… after all she did to you..”

“It seemed true at the moment..” She reasoned.

“Well… it isn’t…”

“Then what is???” She looked up at him, as she caught his eyes, she stared into them. It was still the same, warm and dark brown. Always welcoming, and kind.

Elmo returned silence. He just gazed into her eyes.

“Why did you bring me here anyways?” she asked, determined to change the topic, because she was sure to shed tears anytime soon.

“Like I said, you have something that’s mine… Nakakatawa ka nga eh… you just took it.. Walang paalam. Bilis lang ng kamay mo… Hindi ko manlang napansin.” He looked down at his shoes and smiled. “Julie… Do you know what happens to thieves?”

Mas lalong naguluhan si Julie. San ba papunta tong usapan namin? Baliw na ata tong lalakeng toh eh.. She thought.

“Kinukulong, syempre…”

“Alam mo ba kung bakit?”

“Kasi hindi naman kanila ung kinuha nila.. Ayun ung kapalit…”

“Tama… a long term commitment to the walls of a prison cell…” Elmo says.

Julie was getting annoyed. She just wanted this to be over with. She was tired of thinking of what could be and what can’t. “I didn’t steal anything… Moe… Hindi ako pinalaking magnanakaw..”

“Wala naman akong sinabing pinalaki kang magnanakaw… although, you did take something that wasn’t yours…”

“Ano nga yun?!”

“You stole my heart, Julie…”

Elmo smiled as he could see Julie come to the realization of things. She was finally getting it. Everything was clear now. Even though it was very clear before too.

“If you’re thinking to resist this, stop it. For once, let yourself feel what it wants to feel. You’ve been putting up walls and walls around your heart… Stop it. Don’t be afraid. This is true, its not fake, its not scripted, its not paid for… its real, Julie. I fell for you not because you were vulnerable, weak and independent….. Kahit na napakacute mo and childish looking on the outside. I fell inlove with you kasi, you are one of the strongest, most dependent and passionate women I’ve ever met. Wag mong isipin na kinaaawaan kita, that is far from what I feel… I may have felt it sometime during that vacation, but I would never love you out of pity or sorry…”

He came down the stairs and stood infront of a stunned and baffled Julie. She was stunning as always. Long, dark wavy curls. Her skin smooth and fair, cheeks as pink as roses. And her eyes, those mesmerizing eyes. They met his and he knows he could stare at them forever.

“Wala nga sa plano toh diba? Napagusapan natin, na… Magtutulungan tayo, para mapa-fall natin sila satin… Sino ba naman kasing nagsabi na ganun pala kabilis yang kamay mo?” He chuckled.

She smiled. It wasn’t planned talaga. None of this was.

“Out of all the things you could steal, you chose my heart Julie… then you left… why?”

He was smiling now, thankful that the mood changed and now was a bit light because they were both smiling.

Julie tucked a stray curl behind her ear. She was ready to tell the truth. All those years she believed that Elmo thought and treated her like a charity case. Hindi naman pala… How silly of her, but that’s life. Sometimes, we do stupid things to figure out the right ones.

“Gantihan lang naman eh…” She said now letting the old Julie show.

“Ha? Gantihan?” Elmo was clueless for a second.

“Oo… You stole my heart as well, Elmo…” She looked up to him and smiled. they gazed at each other. Slowly, Elmo reached for her waist, and pulled her close. Really close, that their hearts were beating at the same rhythm. Then he smiled.

“Patay tayo nyan…. Ano nga ulit nangyayari sa mga taong nagnanakaw?” He asked, softly whispering.

“Kinukulong nga…” she whispered back.

“Edi ikukuong din tayo?”

“Siguro…”

“Okay lang sayo? Magkasama tayo?”

“Basta, ikaw lang ang kasama ko… ayaw ko ng may kashare…” she joked.

“Madamot karin pala… Sige, magkasama tayo sa kulungan natin…”

“Teka… san nga ba ang kulungan?”

He broke his gaze, and looked around. Then he cupped her cheek with his hand and smiled at her once again.

“You know what? They said, they have special prison cells for two people that have stolen each other’s hearts. Its called a home. Eto yung atin…” He said.

“Wait. What? Elmo… are we still..?? What are you saying?”

“Dito ang kulungan natin… Natin ah? NATIN.”

“Are you saying…??”

“Julie Anne San Jose… for charges against a STOLEN heart… I hereby sentence you to spend the remaining years of your life in this house.”

Julie’s eyes widened while Elmo smirked at her reaction.

“… Along with Mr. Elmo Moses Magalona with charges for the same commited crime.”

“Teka… I don’t mean to be conservative or what, but a man and a woman can’t just live together in a house, that goes against my values…” she was teasing now.

“Really now? Fine… “

So he gets down on his knees and did what he should’ve done the time he found her again.

“Julie… I’ll keep it simple.. baka bawiin ng ‘judge’ ung sentence, gawin pang death penalty…. I love you and I will forever… mahirap mabuhay ng walang puso, Julie… Nasa sayo na ung akin eh… and I have no intention of taking it back… so will you, along with my heart that you’ve stolen, marry me?”

STOLEN 8

She stepped down from her car, obviously in a hurry.

SNAP!!!!!

What the???

Everything happened too fast, luckily she held on to the car door. And when she looked down, her guess was right. She did break a heel. Again.

Crap. Really? Now? Kung kelan naman kinakain na ako ng nerbyos…. She thought. It was her presentation for her Thesis. She was on her last year, and she only needed to pass this to graduate. It was her Master Thesis Presentation. She was finally on her way to being a gradeschool teacher.

After 2 years, she was completely changed. She knows how to dress up, look good, but only did these on special occasions. She got through most of her college life, alone. Without Lauren. Or Sam. Or….. Him.

“Congratulations, Mr. Magalona… I’m looking forward to working with you..” He shook the hand that was extended. After taking Business Management, he finally got to take over his dad’s business. He sat down on his new chair and desk. He should be grateful, happy, and content… But one simply cannot live without a heart.

He did get to talk to her, there were many chances that they would bump into each other. School hallways, Library, Coffee Shop, and sometimes even on the streets. He gave her his address, his phone number, any possible contact Julie could reach him in, he gave. But …………there was nothing. Just cold silence. He didn’t even know what he did wrong.

But he was eager, and he tried once again to find out. As he drove to the place he agreed to meet with his old friend, he shook his head. This is completely mental. He thought. He parked his car, and took off his suit. He walked to the coffee shop and spotted them.

“Moe!! It’s so nice to see you again!!” She said, still with the same old voice of hers. She tried to hug him, but he didn’t move.

“Nice to see you too, Lauren… You too, Sam..”

“Same here, Moe… so? What is it that you want to talk about?” Sam asked.

“Her.” was all he said.

You could see the excitement vanish from Lauren’s eyes. She thought it was just catching up with an old friend.

“Your still trying? Haven’t you given up?” Sam asked.

“Why should I?… She has something that belongs to me… I don’t intend to ask for it… But I want her to know…” Elmo said.

“She doesn’t want you Moe… can’t you see? Kaya nga siya lumayo satin nung 2nd year diba?” Lauren said.

“How do you know that? You haven’t talked to her since that year either!” Elmo said. Still hopeful.

“Trust me… It’s better this way… Do her a favor and stop.” Lauren said, firmly.

“Why?” Elmo asked, because he really didn’t know what was going on.

“Because!!!”

“Did she say something to you? Did you say something to her?… Lauren! Answer me!!!”

“You don’t need to do this anymore!! Kung anong nangyari nung sem-break sa Bicol, she’s over that! You don’t need to pity her!! Hindi na dapat siya kaawaan!” Lauren finally said it.

“What??” Elmo was surprised. He slowly shook his head and looked down. “You thought I did all of those, kasi naawa ako sakanya?”

“Well every one always favored her! Lagi nalang, ‘kawawa naman si Julie’ or ‘poor Julie, here let’s make things alot more easier for you and harder for Lauren!’”

Both men were surprised. Lauren was snapping like crazy. It was like everything was kept in for so long. It would be nice if all of these were true. But it wasn’t.

“Is that why she avoided me? Because she thought I felt sorry for her?” He asked quietly now.

“That’s what she said, bro…” Sam finally talked.

“No, Sam. That’s the truth! And-“

“No…”

“Excuse me???”

“NO. It isn’t. What I felt for her was real…”

Silence. Lauren and Sam were taken aback. It was foolish of anyone to think that he wasn’t telling the truth. But he really did feel something for her. And it was far, far from pity and sorry.”

“I love her. That’s the truth.” With that said, he stood up and started to leave. It was when he was outside when Sam came up to him.

“Moe… hey, man.. I’m sorry.. But, my cousin is one of her students. She teaches at this private school now. The school’s near her place. Its in ATC. I hope that helps…” Sam said, now with a sincerely sorry face.

“Yes… it actually does… Thanks..”

“Good. Glad I could help. It’s the least I could do..”

Elmo nodded and walked towards his car.

“Oh.. hey Moe?”

“Yeah?”

“For all I know, she was feeling the same way…”

She locked her classroom and looked around. She was always the last one to leave the school.

“Ingat po, Miss Julie!”

“Kayo rin po, Tatay Ted…” She said to the janitor who was always kind enough to keep her company while she would grade some tests.

She opened the door to the parking lot and the rain was pouring like hell.

“Really???!!?” She shouted out loud. She was already tired enough. So without an umbrella she ran halfway across the parking lot to the only car parked. Once she got inside she wasn’t that soaked. Just slightly.

She shoved the key and turned the ignition.

Click.

She tried again.

Click.

For the love of all that is holy!! Not today! Please? She thought. Then tried again.

Click.

Nothing. She grabbed her purse and rummaged for her phone. She was about to make a call, but her phone was drained. As in zip, zilch, nada.

With her frustration she slammed her fist on the steering wheel. She looked around, and the school lights were already off, the only shop with an open sign was the coffee shop across the school. So she decided to make a run for it.

She entered the coffee shop, relieved to be out of the rain. But her badluck has struck again, for this coffee shop was about to close. There was just one customer, and he seemed to be falling asleep.

I’m not going out there til the rain stops. She said to herself.

“Excuse me? Can I get a soy latte please?” She ordered. “Thanks..”

He found the school, yet he spent hours and hours searching for her. He ended up tired and frustrated in the coffee shop near the school. His eyes were about to close, when he heard a familiar voice. He turned around. And there she was.

When something is missing, you don’t really find it until you stop looking for it. Because, at that point, you are just desperate and begging to see it infront of you. If you are lucky.. Your wish might be granted. On this situation, Elmo’s long search was over.

“Julie? Ikaw na ba yan?”

She was startled. She knew that voice. So as she turned to the right, to the man she thought was asleep. She saw his face. The face of comfort and warmth. The face that would make her laugh at the oddest of situations. The face that would keep showing up in her dreams for the past few years.

“Elmo?”

“It is you! What happened?! Bakit basang-basa ka?” He asked, worried that she might get sick or something. He was still in utter disbelief that he would find her.

“Yeah… Ako nga… Umuulan sa labas eh, kakalabas ko lang galing work. My car won’t start…” she said all at once.

“Magkakasakit ka sa ginagawa mo eh… Hatid nalang kita…” He offered.

“What? No.. no, it’s okay… I’ll just call a tow truck.” She said.

He chuckled. Same old Julie…. Hindi ka parin talaga nagbago.

“Look at the watch, Julie… it’s 11pm… I don’t think offices are open na, and kung open man sila, you’d wait for 2 hours minimum… You are soaking wet.. It’s just a ride.” Elmo reasoned. He gazed into her eyes, but she wont let him. She turned away at once. Probably because, she can’t bear it.

“Okay fine… but just a ride….” She agreed.

So he drove, while she was on the passenger seat. He kept staring at her, still in disbelief that this was now the Julie that he teamed up with in 2nd year college.

“Stop staring, and look at the road… i don’t need any more badluck for this day..” She said.

When they got to her apartment, she rummaged through her bag for her keys. But there was one problem, it wasn’t there.

“No!” she shouted.

“What?!”

“No… no, no, no…. I think,… I might have left it at the school… Nooooo” She buried her face in her palms. Then sat upright all of a sudden. “I’ll just wait for the housekeeper to come…”

“And when is that?” Elmo asked.

“Tomorrow at 10…” She said, now slumping once again.

“Look….. this might sound crazy but… my place isn’t far from here… gusto mo, dun ka nalang muna.. I have a few of Max’s clothes, you can use them…” He suggested.

“I couldn’t possibly…” She said.

“Eh anong gagawin mo? Magpapaginaw ka hanggang bukas? tumutulong na nga ako eh….”

“Sorry… fine… your place then..” she said with a dead pan tone.

“You act as if, hindi tayo naging close…” Elmo commented.

All she did was sigh.

Elmo’s flat was a ideal bachelor’s pad. It wasn’t too flashy, just right. It had a lot of book shelves, a few leather couches, a chess set, and more stuff.

“Wag kang mahiya ah… anything you want.. I’ll heat up water, do you like tea or coffee nalang?” Elmo asked.

“Tea…” she answered.

It was soo…tense. It didn’t feel right. And Julie knew it. They both did.

Elmo got the teabag and was about to pour hot water into two cups, when her hand grasped the cup to help him. He looked at her and she smiled. This was the Julie he knew. The Julie he fell for.

“Thanks…” she said. “Sorry ah? kung ganito tayo nagkita.. not exactly ideal…”

“Atleast nagkita tayo…”

“Right…Soo.. how you’ve been?” she asked, now really eager to know.

“Good… I’ve taken over the family business… And organizing a charity event for down-syndromed kids…” He said. “Ikaw?… Kamusta ka na Julie..?”

“I’m good! I’ve just finished my masters and applied for a teaching spot dun sa school. I’m a gradeschool music teacher, Moe..” she smiled. She looked happy, satisfied. But not content.

Silence. It’s everyone’s worst enemy. It’s image doesn’t change in this situation either.

“Na-miss kita, Jules… you disappeared.” He finally said. He looked up at her, she was now sitting across the living room, in the other leather couch.

“I know… I’m sorry… I just couldn’t live around people who think of me as a cha-“

“Charity case?… That’s the word Lauren used? wow…” Elmo put his drink down. And looked at his hands.

“Lauren? I heard her saying that you-“

“That what? I said it? Did you really believe that?” He asked.

There was no point in lying, so she nodded.

“Of all the things that I felt about you that sem-break, Pity and Sorry were not any of those.” He said firmly. “I felt one thing, and that was the only thing I was sure of..”

Julie looked down at the cup she had on her lap. She knew it. But somehow she believed Lauren’s words more.

“And what was that?” She asked, daring now.

He stood up and walked to her. He sat next to her, really close and brushed a wet strand of hair away from her face.

“That I fell for you, and believe it or not, Julie.. I’m still fallling..” He gazed into her eyes. “I love you, Julie…”

And before you know it, the lips that mouthed those 3 words were on hers faster than a blink.

She was surprised at first, but for the first time in 2 years, she felt right, in place and content. So she kissed back.

As they pulled away, Julie opened her eyes  and looked at Elmo.

She was biting her lip without knowing. It’s the cutest thing, ever. He thought. Elmo brushed the back of his hand on her cheeks.

“I’ll go get a towel for you..” He whispered.

As she dried up, he came back with an over size shirt and pajamas.

“I’m sorry.. akala ko kasi, hindi pa kinuha ni Max ung gamit niya. Wala na pala lahat. Eto nalang…” He held up the shirt and pajamas. “Pili ka… top? or bottom?”

Was he serious? Letting me choose? She thought.

“I’m kidding..” He said. Then tossed the clothes unto the couch, and walked to his room.

“Subukan mo lang talagang manilip… malalagot ka sakin, Magalona..” she warned. “Baka nakakalimutan mo,… mabigat ang kamay ko..”

“How could i forget?” He laughed. After five minutes… “You done?”

“Oo… Thanks nga pala sa shirt.” She said as she was tying her hair.

“No prob..” He looks at her, and takes it all in. She was in his shirt. Yet no pajamas, only because the waistline didn’t fit, and the shirt went down until below her knees. She looked adorable, like a kid in an over sized dress.

“Bagay pala sayo eh…”

“Huh?? Ang alin?”

“Ung t-shirt ko..”

Redness rose to her cheeks. Sigh, this feeling again. She thought.

“Ang ganda mo parin, hindi ka nagbago… not a single bit..” Elmo said, as he got closer to her. “So… do I get a reply sa sinabi ko kanina?”

“Alin dun?”

“When I said, I love you, Julie… I meant it… Do you feel the same though?”

She came closer, and brushed his hair away from his face. She touched his cheek, because it felt right. So was looking into his eyes. Those warm, dark chocolate eyes.

“One thing’s for sure. I have no problem being like this for as long as life gives me.. I have no problem, if I would wear you shirt and stay like this… Does that answer your question?”

“It most certainly does..” He said, leaning in for another kiss. But the kettle went off, and they just smiled. Their foreheads glued to each other, and their eyes staring into each other’s. It was a moment of peace and bliss. It may be short, but it was a moment worth waiting for.

The night was full of laughter and talking. Loads and loads of talking. Not to mention, kissing. When Julie grew tired, she slept on his bed, and Elmo slept on the couch.

He was about to wake her up for breakfast when he opened the door and saw that she wasn’t there. The bed was made and there was a note on the pillow.

Elmo,

I’m sorry I had to leave like this. But we weren’t thinking.

We shouldn’t have seen each other. Hindi dapat nangyari ito.

I made myself believe that we actually had a chance. But like

everything I wanted in life, it always has to be taken away.

You’ll find someone else, Moe. Someone who deserves you better.

Someone who’ll love you like I never will. Someone who deserves your

kind and loving heart. When you find her, then you can find me. I’d love

to meet her. Til then, Elmo.

Yours Always,

-Julie.

How it’s supposed to be Chapter 22

“Moe… Moe!! Elmo!”

He was still sleeping, quite tired from his birthday party. But someone was shaking his bed… and screaming into his ear.

“WHAT?” he said a little too loud.

“Open your eyes, you dummy…”

Its too early for this Max… ang aga mong manggulo!!! He thought to himself. So he forced his eyes open, to get rid of his sister faster. But his forehead creased as he sees Max waving a bunch of papers infront of his face.

“What?”

“A simple ‘thank you’ would suffice…” Max said, as she placed the papers on his chest.

‘What’s this?”

“Basahin mo kaya… I think you’d be happy…” Ginugulo na ni Max ang bedside table ni Elmo. Marami kasi siyang abubot dito eh.

“Stop touching my stuff..” As he read the papers, he slowly got up. These were airplane tickets and reservation papers. There was only one though, just for him.

“Where am I going? Is this your idea? How long will I be gone?”

“Andami mong tanong….” Max sat beside him sa bed. “You are going on a vacation. It’s not my idea, and you’ll be gone for 3 weeks, maximum.”

“Ha??!?! Ba’t antagal???!” He panicked. Pano na ‘to? Kung kelan naman na aamin na ako kay Japs, saka naman ako papaalisin! Baka kung anong isipin ni Japs kapag umalis ako… Baka isipin niya na tumatakas ako, or iniiwasan ko siya… Pano na to???

“Easyy!!!! You won’t be alone.. Your friends are coming with you.” She stood up and left. Nothing said after that.

Friends? Sino-sino???? Kasama ba si Japs??

He tried calling her, but she wouldn’t answer. The whole day he made the effort of talking to her, but he failed. Somehow the universe was not on his side today. So he decided to pack up nalang, his flight was this night.

When the time came to leave, he went down with his stuff. He saw Max, with her stuff as well. She’s going? With us?? NO.

“Wag ka nang umangal… Mom asked me to, don’t worry, I won’t be in your way..” Max guaranteed with a smile.

What bothered his was, they were taking their van. But it was only the two of them riding. Who else were they picking up? He put his earphones on, totally not in the mood, kung sino man ang sasama. He had other plans. But his train of thought was interrupted by being pinched on the nose.

“Aray… ano ba??” He snapped. He turned around to see a startled Julie.

“wow… who stole all your candy mister grumpy???” Julie said.

“Japs!! Kasama ka?!” His mood went immediately from extremely low to extremely high. He’s convinced this girl is making him crazy.

“Ay.. hindi! Maiiwan ako, kaya nga ako nagdala ng sangkaterbang luggage at unan, dahil magpapaiwan ako sa bahay…” sarcasm was one of Julie’s gifts. But her laughter would always give it away.

“Okay… I’m starting to like this surprise trip…” Elmo said.

“Good.. coz our dads planned it, so sayang lang kung hindi ka mageenjoy..”

Pwede bang hindi ako magenjoy? Kasama kaya kita. He wish he said it, but as we all know Elmo… he didn’t.

They picked up Bea and Jake as well. And head off to the airport. Once they boarded the plane, they each took their seats. Julie on the window seat, same as Bea at the back, and Max on the other end of the aisle. Just as promised.

Everything was just happening too fast. First he was about to confess his feelings to Julie, now they’re on a plane to Palawan. At midnight.

As the lights began to dim, Julie squirmed a bit, making herself comfortable.

“Aminin mo nga, did you plan this?” He asked.

“No…”

“Wehhh”

“Hindi nga, just like you I woke up to plane tickets being waved at my face. They specifically told me not to talk to you though… surprise birthday gift daw nila sayo…”

Elmo nodded, as if he figured it out. Which he didn’t. What was the purpose of this? Bakit Palawan? Bakit kami lang?

“May itatanong ka pa ba, Moe? Tulog muna tayo..mga isang oras pa naman ang biyahe eh…” Julie said.

“Ah… ikaw nalang… di ako inaantok eh..”

“Sure ka… eh, mas malaki na ung isang mata mo kesa sa isa sa kakapuyat mo eh…” Julie said, leaning in and touching his one eye.

Masyado siyang malapit, naku baka mamaya kung ano nanaman masabi ko nito eh. Pero napaka ganda niya talaga. Lalo lang akong natotorpe eh… Ganito pala siya kapag inaantok… mukha lang siyang bata.. Cuuuuuute. But I’m a teenager. This is too much of a temptation.

Bakit ganun? Masyado bang malapit ung distance namin?

Elmo broke the silence.

“Okie dokes…” Julie turned to the window. Trying to sleep by curling up in a ball.

Elmo on the other hand put his beats on. He was about to pick a song, when he felt the left one removed from his ear. When he looked over, it was Julie with that shy and amusingly cute look in her face.

“Ahm… Moe???”

“Hmmm??”

“I can’t sleep kasi-” She started. But bestfriends can finish each others sentences.

“Of course, go ahead, you should know by now that I’m your personal pillow talaga…” He laughed lightly.

“Thanks…” So as Julie snuggled her head on that right spot on Elmo’s shoulders, she started to drift off to sleep. But then she remembered something.

“Moe?”

“Yes?”

“You do know that you owe me an explanation right? From last night?”

“Yeppp” His lips popping as he said the ‘p’.

“No rush… take your time. But not tooo long…”

“Bakit?”

“Kasi, even I have to do some figuring out…” She said. Now serious.

“Well… Maybe we could figure it out together then…” Elmo asked.

But there was no answer.

“Japs?” He whispered. He looked down, and the sight of a sleeping Julie made him smile. She had a small smile across her face, her chest going up and down, up and down slowly, and her hair falling down across her face.

He brushed it away, and tucked it at the back of her ear. Then he lightly touched her cheek, afraid that he’d wake her up.

I’ll figure out a way to tell you…. by the end of this vacation, hopefully, we’ll still stay friends. Because I never want to lose you, ever. Napaka dali lang sabihin sa utak, pero bakit ako nauutal kapag nagsisimula na akong magsalita?? What have you done to me, Julie?? One night you were just my bestfriend, then I wake up suddenly knowing that I feel something more than that… Tough luck, Moe.

OneShot: This Song’s Memories

“………AAAnd CUT… okay print… That’s it for Elmo. Pack up ka na.. Set up na for Julie’s scene…”

Elmo thanked Direk. And soon entered the tent to pack up his things. He was exhausted and tired. He just wanted his bed. But though his eyelids were already closing without permission, he was awaken by what he saw when he glanced around the tent.

There she was. Julie. Cute as ever. Eating an apple and reading a book, wide awake. Nakakatuwa siyang panuorin. He said as he smiled to himself. He sat down for a moment, slowly packing up his stuff, but secretly buying more time para pagmasdan siya.

She thought. Ba’t kaya siya nakatitig? Tanong niya sa sarili niya. Baka naman meron akong apple sa mukha?

“Oh,… Moe… Pack up ka na ba?” Julie asked.

“Yup… may scenes ka pa di ba??”  Elmo asked.

“Oo eh…inaantok na nga ako eh…” Ibinaba ni Julie ang binabasa niyang libro. At naglakad papunta kay Elmo. “Sure ka talagang hindi ka makakapunta bukas?”

“Hindi talaga, sorry ah…” Elmo glanced around the tent. He then looked outside the tent, to make sure that they werent being watched. “Andun naman si Sam eh…” He said, jokingly.

“Ganun?” Nakisabay si Julie, pero hindi nagpahalata. Umupo siya sa upuan ni Moe, habang pinapanuod itong magligpit ng backpack niya. “Sabagay…it would be nice to have a new partner for a change…” Biro ni Julie.

Elmo’s face changed. He didn’t mean it for real! He really couldn’t come, even though he wanted to.

“Ang bilis mo naman magpalit ng kapartner…” Biglang tampo ni Elmo.

Tiningnan ni Julie ang mukha ni Elmo, na nagdadabog na nagpapack up. Naaliw siya sa reaction nito. Parehas silang nangaasar at sumasakay sa trip ng bawa’t isa.

“Sus ginoo… Joke lang naman… eto naman oh…” Sabi ni Julie na tumatawa.

“Hindi… sige, okay lang…”

“Nagtatampo ka? For real, Moe?”

“Okay nga lang… Kayang-kaya ka naman sabayan nun eh… ” Bagay pa kayo.. Inisip ni Elmo na patago.

“Hala siya… eto nagbibiro lang..” Sabi ni Julie, na natatawa parin sa reaction ni Elmo. Parang hinihila ang mga kilay nito pababa at parang dinamihan rin si Elmo ng wrinkles. Matindi ang tingin niya sa mata, at parang malalim ang iniisip.

“Ano nga pala ulit kakantahin niyo?”

“Uhm… Right By My Side… yun daw gusto ni Sam eh..”

“Tingnan mo, un pa talaga ung kanta… tsk… Ikaw Julie ahh..” This time it was Elmo playing with Julie.

“Eh yun nga ung gusto niya eh…”

As Elmo zipped up the zipper of his backpack, he smiled staring at the floor. “Naaalala mo pa ba yun? Yung naging prod natin?”

“Syempre naman… ikalat mo ba naman sa buong pilipinas ang kiliti ko, sinong hindi makakalimot?”

Humarap si Elmo kay Julie, still smiling. Titigan sila.

“Payag na ako..” Sabi ni Elmo.

“Payag na ano?”

“Na kumanta kayo together..” Elmo crossed his arms across his chest.

“Ay… kailangan ko ba ng permission mo?” Tinaas ni Julie ang kilay niya.

“Oo.. syempre, akin ka lang kaya…” Lumapit si Elmo kay Julie, sabay binubulong.

“Anong sabi mo?!?” Nagulat si Julie sa sinabi niya. Parang iba nga ang narinig niya eh. Hindi lang ata siya makapaniwala or sadyang binggi lang talaga siya.

“Ah… I mean, magkapartner tayo eh… tayo lang dapat… pero since hindi nga ako makapunta bukas, payag akong si Sam nalang… Pero…”

“Pero ano??” Ano pa kayang maisasabi ng lalakeng ito. Akala mo kung sino magsalita eh, kala mo aagawin sakanya.

Elmo simply smiled, he slung his backpack on to his back and kept his arms crossed.

“Dahil, yun ang kakantahin mo, mapapalitan ng ibang memories yung kantang yun. Gusto ko kasi, yung prod parin natin ang naaalala mo kapag kinakanta mo yun..”

He released his arms, walked around Julie and began to sing, slowly.. I…. I’ not livin’ life…. I’m not livin’ right…I’m not living…

Gumagaling nga siyang kumanta. Kahit mahina lang yung boses niya… Nakakatunaw rin pala, kapag walang audience na kasama… Teka nga! Wag Julie! No… Iniisip ni Julie. Ngunit hindi rin siya makapag-concentrate dahil sa titig na binibigay sakanya ni Elmo.

“Kapag kinakanta niyo na ‘toh dun, ito sana ung maalala mo… I’ll refresh your memory..”

…If you’re not by my side… Oooh-ooh.. He then reached out for her right hand, and kissed her hand like he did that day.

I..I’m not livin’ life… He twirled her around slowly, unable to keep his eyes off her as she spins around…. I’m not livin’ right… When she returned to facing him, he pulled her closer, his eyes still on her. I’m not livin’… If you’re not by my side… Oooh-ooh….

But instead of letting her go, he kept her close. Still gazing at her, like there’s no tomorrow.

Bakit ganun siya makatitig?? Tanong ni Julie sa sarili niya.

“Tapos, kapag itong part naman na ‘toh ang kinakanta ninyo… sana ito naman ang maalala mo…”

He pulled away from her, not letting go of her hand. And started to sing again…

….I wanna hold your hand, Make you laugh again… All of a sudden, he comes up close really quick, and starts to lean in like he did before… I need to be near you…

“At sino bang hindi makakalimot sa part na ‘toh…”

I…I’m not livin’ life…. He was so close, when he was singing… I’m not livin’- And like he did before, he poked her gently on the same side. -right….

I’m not livin’ if you’re- He points to her, and she knows what’s coming up next. She should be ready, because it happened before. But it took her by surprise as always, and made her cheeks blush. -not by my side….Oooh-ooh

He got a hold of her waist… But instead of pulling her to the side, he pulled her towards him. And she was there, inches away from him. He rested his forehead on hers. Completely content where he was at.

“This is where you sing… I can’t sleep IIII…. ” Elmo said, while closing his eyes.

“So… alam mo na, Julie ah… when that music starts, bukas… And when you and Sam get to those parts… you’ll remember, and I hope you’ll smile…”

“Of course I will…”

“Hintayin na sana kitang magpack-up eh… kaso lang.. baka malaman nanaman ng mga adiks…” He laughed weakly…

“Okay lang… “

Elmo pulled away once more, he looked around and gathered the rest of his stuff.

“Pano… alis na ako… see you sa Rehearsal, Jules..”

He was about to walk outside the tent. When he dropped his stuff.

“Nga pala, Julie…” His face real close to hers. “Meron pa akong nakalimutan..”

As he was walking back.

I..I’m not livin’ life

I’m not livin’ right

I’m not livin’… If you’re not by my side… Oooh-ooh

I…I’m not livin’ life…

I’m not livin’ right.. He cupped her face with his hands. And stared at her face.

Mamamatay na ata ako… Parang sa sobrang bilis ng puso ko, nagover heat na ata… biglang tumigil. Iniisip ni Julie…

He drew closer, and closer. “Bye..” And with that, he simply leaned in. But this time, Julie surprised him and kissed Elmo on the cheeks.

“Bye…” she said. Smiling.

STOLEN 7

The next morning, Julie woke up, still feeling bad. But better. She let her hand wander around the bed, but she couldn’t find who she was looking for. Baka lumipat nga talaga siya, nung nakatulog na ako… She thought. And she was right.

That very same moment, Elmo was already downstairs, convincing Sam and Lauren to apologize to Julie. After all, it was the reasonable and right thing to do.

“….Kahit sa aking wag na kayong humingi ng sorry, sakanya nalang… She’s really hurt, Lauren. She’s your bestfriend… You’re better than this, I know you are..” Elmo tried.

“Bakit naman kami magsosorry, Elmo? We fell for each other, that’s not a sin.” Lauren reasoned.

“It isn’t, trust me. But just going ahead, not even considering that you might hurt someone- no scratch that, KNOWING, knowing you’ll be hurting her, now that’s the sin.”

This statement from Elmo silenced Lauren and Sam. It was true, they didn’t really think about how Elmo and Julie felt. But before they had a chance to answer,  they heard someone descending down the stairs.

Julie had her hair tied up in a bun, still had her fresh morning face, and was walking barefooted with her pajamas.

“Moe… hindi dapat pinipilit ang ayaw..” She said, going straight to the kitchen and taking out a few ingredients. “Spoon feeding ang ginagawa mo eh…”

She started to get the frying pan hot, and scramble a few eggs. There was silence for a while. It was just Max, Moe, lauren and Sam listening to Julie cooking.

“Hindi ba dapat, sa tanda nilang yan, marunong na silang mag realize ng mali nila..?” She asked, as she finished. She placed 3 plates on the counter, evenly distributing the scrambled eggs she made.

With Elmo’s amazement, he didn’t realize she also toasted bread. That too was placed on each of the 3 plates.

Silence once again, for Sam and Lauren know that they have done something wrong. But as we all know, young or old, it was always hard to say sorry. It is also harder to ask for forgiveness as well…

“Hindi ba dapat, if they are feeling mature things like ‘falling in love’, they should also know how to be mature enough to say sorry?” Julie was now cooking bacon, it smelled good inside the house, it had a warm aura, but it was like coating bitter melon with sugar and sprinkles.

When she was done, she placed the food on the breakfast table.

“Ano? Bata pa ba kayo? Gusto niyo rin ba ng time-out katulad ng mga bata sa day care? Sam… Lauren, you guys are better than this…” Julie pleaded. For she too wanted to mend the broken friendship. But she had enough of being the victim.

With this said, Lauren walked out. And of course, Sam went with her.

When they were gone, Elmo could see the fierceness within Julie vanish. It was as if she weakened, and simply leaned onto a wall after a few seconds.

“Jules… I didn’t know you could cook?” Maxx asked. Trying to loosen the tension.

“Para sainyo po talaga yan ni Moe… my way of saying thanks… for bringing me here..” She said, smiling now.

Elmo and Max, approached the food at the table. And they ate… Max tried her best to work her humor. So did Elmo. Their humor complimented each other. It made Julie smile, it even made her laugh. When they finished eating, Elmo insisted on washing the dishes, but Julie wouldn’t allow it. So they agreed on doing it together.

“Jules, don’t waste you time crying na, or even frowning. Gusto ko lagi kang naka-smile ha? When I see you, I only want to see a smile, or a laugh.” Elmo said.

“Grabe? Ano ako? robot?” Julie smiled, she was rinsing the soapy dishes Elmo was handing out to her.

“Pwede rin… ayaw mo nun? Ikaw ung first ever, cutest and prettiest robot..” Elmo said.

Julie just shook her head.

“Bolero.. Bilisan mo na dyan… nangungulubot na kamay ko sa tubig oh..”

“Kahit kumulubot pa yang kamay mo, maganda ka parin naman eh…”

“Talaga?” Julie said, going closer to him. There was something wrong, she looked serious, but she also looked like she was about to burst into laughter.

“Yuppp..” Elmo said, now staring back at her, accepting the challenge.

“Alam mo??…..” Julie’s eye brows raised, she smiled and wiped bubbles on Elmo’s face. Elmo on the other hand was too distracted. It was only seconds later when he reacted to her prank.

“Dami mong alam, Magalona… bilisan mo na nga lang!” Julie said, now laughing like crazy. Hearing her laugh felt great. But there was something in her laugh that wasn’t quite right. Even though she looked okay, you could still hear a hint of hurt somewhere in her.

Elmo was too surprised of how he was acting to notice though. He never got lost in someone’s eyes like that before. He was never caught off guard by a girl before either. He tried to wipe away the soap with his shoulder but he had no success. Julie noticed this, so she wiped his cheek clean with the back of her hand.

They continued washing the dishes, talking and laughing. It felt nice. Julie dried her hands, and so did Elmo. It was then when Lauren and Sam approached them in the kitchen. The aura changed. Elmo could feel Julie weaken, but trying to stand up strong despite her vulnerable situation.

“Julie, before you talk, hear me out first…” Sam started.

Of course it would be Sam to speak! Julie thought to herself. She knew it, Lauren knew it.

“I-We know that it was a very inconsiderate act. What we did. And our uncontrollable feelings can’t be a valid reason. But we couldn’t help it. I know that’s wrong. But we’re here to set it right. We’ve talked about it, and agreed that this friendship- your’s and Lo’s- is too important to be wasted like this. So we want to say sorry… ” Sam said. He was looking at Julie straight in the eye, trying to knock on the already broken heart of hers. Trying to ask for a little more forgiveness.

Elmo wasn’t convinced. After what came out of Lauren’s mouth last night, he wasn’t convinced that Lauren felt the same way as Sam did. He didn’t think that Lauren was willing to say sorry.

“And you, Lo? Do you have anything to say?” Elmo asked.

“What I said last night… I’m sorry, you’re my bestfriend, Jules… I would never try to hurt you on purpose. But this time, okay, I admit, I was selfish. But I thought about it.. Sam helped me think about it. He’s actually a good influence… And I truly am very sorry… I am, Jules…really… Can you forgive me???” She asked.

Julie’s eyes squinted, as if it was going to help her know if she’s lying or not.

“Even before you asked, Lo… You were already forgiven..” Julie said quietly.

This surprised Elmo. Bakit? Bakit Julie? After all the hurt? The crying? The sobbing, last night? You still forgive them? Pano mo nakakayanan? He asked internally. Not wanting to get in the way of the two bestfriends now reuniting and hugging, he went up to his sister’s room.

“Oh Moe.. What’s wrong? Did Sam and Lauren leave already?” Max asked.

“That’s the thing, Max… She forgave them..” Elmo said, slumping down beside his sister on the bed.

Max’s forehead creased, she looked down at Elmo who fell face first beside her on the bed.

“So?? That’s good isn’t it?? What’s got you troubled then?” She asked, quite curious.

“You don’t get it… Pagkatapos siyang saktan ng ganun? Ang hirap nun! Tapos isang sorry lang nila, babalewalain nalang niya?” Elmo said.

“Anong masama dun? It’s for the sake of friendship naman…”

“No… I’m not worried about the friendship… Kung ikaw si Julie, and you’ll be seeing your bestfriend, in the arms of the guy you’ve always wanted… Knowing what they did to you? Hindi ka ba masisiraan ng bait?” Elmo asked now sitting up.

“Hindi, baka ikaw… “

“Ha??”

“Kung magwala ka dyan parang ikaw ung masasaktan.. Daig mo pa ung mismong tao na talagang nagforgive…”

“I’m just looking out for her.. I don’t want her-“

“To be hurt?” Max cut in.”Yun ba un?

“Oo..”

“Admit it, Moe… She’s got you…” Max said smiling and going back to her book.

“Wha-“

“Don’t even try to deny it… Since when did you start to be concerned about her? When did you start to care this much? Bakit kapag alam mong mahina na siya at vulnerable, daig mo pa ung bestfriend niya na dapat un ang katabi niya? why are you so protective of her? Sige nga?”

“Because…because… Maybe I’ve fallen for her na talaga…”

“Okay… so? What now?”

“Do I tell her?”

“S’up to you lil bro… “

Elmo decided on the right time, after they come back from their vacation. Two weeks after that. He’ll tell her. But right now, he had to be there for her, as a friend. Someone she can lean on.

The day after they got back, Elmo contacted Julie. Asking her if she would like to hang out. Since then, when they went to school and when they go home, they were always together. Elmo tried to make up for the hurt she was going through everyday, seeing Lauren and Sam together. Elmo saw this as his happiness, his comfort. He knew he was happy seeing and making Julie happy every day.

Julie was getting better, from day to day. She had Elmo to help her, make her happy and make her smile. He was her comfort. As she was his. They were helping each other, growing with each other. That’s what’s making their friendship work. This whole perspective changed though, when she over heard two familiar voices in the building hallway. She was already on her way to eat lunch with Elmo, but first she was to meet with Sam and Lauren because she had to lend Lauren something for her next class.

“I just feel bad for her… It’s almost as if she’s a pity party, babe..”

“Lo, babe.. don’t think like that… it’s not good. Elmo, he just wants to help her out. There’s nothing wrong with that… Baka nga sa dulo, may feeling si Moe for her, who knows di ba?”

Lauren’s eyebrows raised then went down again quickly. That’s impossible, she thought to herself. Elmo? Falling for Julie? I don’t think so..

“I just don’t like my bestfriend looking like a charity case…” Lauren said.

“She isn’t…” Sam said.

“Yes! Tingnan mo ah… Elmo only treated her that way after we got back from sem-break, kasi naaawa siya kay Julie… syempre alam niya na kahit okay na tayo, nakakaawa parin ang sitwasyon ni Julie… I mean who wouldn’t feel sorry for her?”

“Babe, tama na ah… iba nanaman ang tabas ng bibig mo.. I’m not liking this..”

“I’m just saying… I have to talk to her..”

“Ano naman ang sasabihin mo?”

“Na dapat hindi siya umasa… Just because Elmo is treating her like this doesn’t mean na may gusto un sa kanya… ang totoo nun, naaawa lang yun.. believe me… You can even ask Moe himself.. I’m sure he’ll agree..” Lauren said.

Enough was enough. She’s had it. That day, she rushed to go home. She didn’t even attend her last class. She went home and cried. It was the most childish thing to do, but with all that was happening right now, she felt like a child. Lost and fragile.

Tama na.. Last na toh… Me? A charity case? Grabe, Julie… You’ve really hit rock bottom, have you? She thought. I’m going to make myself better. Strive for the best. Show all of them that I am not a charity case, and I never will be. Ipapakita ko sakanila. I don’t need any of them, I can achieve what I need on my own.

She vowed to herself. She promised herself that she would be better. She would end up in a better place than they are. So as time passed, she slowly drifted away from them. Sam and Lauren. As well as Elmo. She became distant, and hard to understand. She was mostly at home, focusing on studies. Soon they grew tired. And she finally got the courage to tell them that their friendship is not needed.

The only person who was affected the most was Elmo. He was the one that lost the most. For the only thing that this girl got from him, was the one thing he knew he was lost without. Julie, herself.

He knew one thing, she took something from him. Unknowingly. Hangga’t hindi kita kasama, at hindi mo naibabalik ang nakuha mo sa akin, I will never be as happy as I was.
